hike to lake helene

On Monday I went to Lake Helene. I hiked with my family.
It's 2.9 miles until we got to Lake Helene. On the way there I saw some chipmunks and squirels. The lake was pretty and cold. It was hard but fun. After the hike we got ice cream and trail badges.

the old cabin

We were going on a hike to an old cabin. the first of the hike was steep. The hike was very long, about an hour. On the way to the cabin Helene got hurt by accidentally putting her hand in cactus. When we got there we went inside. Helene found a broom and started sweeping up the cabin then we went outside for a snack. on the way back it seemed like 10 minuites untill we got back home

CVA

TODAY I WENT no. Today I went to CVA (Carbon Valley Acadamy). At CVA first I went to math, then I went to recess, reading, writing, recess and Spanish. The kids were very nice; the playground was great. I want to go to CVA! http://www.carbonvalleyacademy.org/

This week I have learened some algebra and geometry (area of triangles & circles).

A triangle has a base of 20 cm. If the height = 2x cm, and the area = 80x cm squared, find the values of the area & the height.

dinosour ridges

On Tuesday Annika, Ian and I went on a field trip. First we went to a museum. The museum had dinosour bones in it. After that, we went on a hike in Dinosour Ridges. There was a cliff on the edge of the trail.

quilting

On Wednesday I made a quilt. I made it by sowing two fabrics together doing that again then sowing those two together I did that again then my mom sowed the quilt together .I let my mom have it.

gruene

On our way to Sanantonio we stopped at Gruene. We went to a restaurant in Gruene. I really liked it. I think it had 3 floors.

typing

As a part of home schooling I have been working on a program called Adventures in Typing; in it I learned the keys: f,d,j,k,space bar,a,s,l,;,g,h,e,i,r,t,right shift,u,y, left shift, ,, m, n, b, v, c and x. I stopped hunting and pecking and I started using all my fingers.

photoshop and the rest of today

Today my mom told me how to use photoshop; I used: clone stamp, patch tool and the magnetic lasso. after photoshop I did spelling; in spelling my mom wrote sentences with blanks in it then I filled in the blanks.

[I said I would be typing Campbell's dictated entries, but I haven't done that since the very first day. He has been doing all of this by himself since then. So, if you see something in brackets, I've typed it; if not, it's purely Campbell. - Ashley]

some of today

we did an experiment where we took two peices of celery. we dipped one in food coloring mixed with water, the other in plain water we waited for one hour before the hour was over we ate lunch. we had cresent dogs. after that we pulled them out. [dictated to Mom: We learned about the tubes inside plants, which carry water up to the leaves. We were studying structure and cells. We learned that cells have different jobs. Some of the cells in plants bring the water up to the leaves.]

making paper

yesterday I planned to make paper today.first I sredded paper then made pulp out of the paper and put it in a tub .then I got a frame with a screen stapled to it and dipped it in the tub .we got it out and peeled the paper off ,then we let it dry

My First Day Homeschooling

[Campbell has just begun homeschooling. He is going to use this blog to write about what he is learning. One of the skills he will be practicing is keyboarding. Until his typing skills improve a bit, he will dictate to me for this blog. -Ashley]

This is my first day of homeschooling. We have learned about China and the Olympics. The Olympics are happening this summer in Beijing. We looked at pictures of the construction of the National Stadium. I made a structure of the National Stadium out of string and recycled materials.

We read about the Great Wall of China and we read that paper is a Chinese invention. So then we researched on the internet about how to make paper. Tomorrow we will make paper.
